Hailing from Vancouver BC, Kith and Kin was formed on October 2009 when Ian Huntley met Joel Blackburn during their time as students at The Harbor Side Institute of music and technology. Both first collaborated on the song City of Slings as one of their assigned projects and noticed the unique musical chemistry that formed between them. Joel’s songwriting talents and musical influences such as Queen, Beatles, and Elvis went hand in hand with Ian’s tastes, which range from 90s fuzz fused rock to classical jams. Tomas Lobos, former drummer and childhood friend of Ian’s, was present for many early demo recordings and acoustic shows, but left the group during the summer of 2010 to moved back to Calgary in pursuit of his education. During that same time, Pascal Le Vasseur joined the band, making it once again a three piece. Ian and him both went to high school together in Calgary and had prior experiences of being in a band together. Their dynamic harmony functions to bring new light to the creative aspects and songwriting qualities of the group and push it into the type of genre that the band is currently in today. With Ian’s extensive catalogue of songs, Joel’s melodic vocals, and Pascal’s rhythmic bass lines, the band was in the search of a new drummer to complete the band. John Baziuk from White Rock BC grabbed Ian’s attention during one of his performances with his old band Coldwater. John’s influences were quite similar to Ian’s and Pascal’s and in September 2010, the band was complete. Lately Kith and Kin have been working hard at recording an EP album to show the music scene what their musical talents are capable of.
