Event Description
Stretch Pattern Making: The T-Shirt Block
In this pattern making workshop you will learn proven fashion industry pattern making techniques to professionally draft the women’s basic T-Shirt block using your individual body measurements for a personalized fit. In this hands-on workshop you will draft, sew, and fit a T-Shirt in your own made to measure size, which can then be used to develop other knit top or dress designs.
No previous patternmaking experience is necessary. Participants will leave the class with a T-Shirt drafted to their personal size and the knowledge of how to make a Basic T-Shirt for any set of women’s body measurements. Included will be instructions on how to draft a perfectly fitting neckband for the neckline and how to correctly add seam and hem allowances to knit patterns. This is the perfect class for aspiring designers and beginner patternmakers, or home sewers wanting to develop their own patterns.
Drafting paper and tools are provided for your use during this class.
Please wear a tank top and leggings to the first class to ensure accurate measurements.
You should also wear your regular and supportive undergarments, and bring a calculator to the class.
Please note that the block developed in this class is not suitable for plus sizes (body measurements over bust 46”, waist 38”, and Hip 48”). This is about a size 18 in ready to wear.
