Mon. February 18th 2019+ Add to Calendar The Robert Bateman Centre (All Ages)
10:00am - 12:00pm
Event Description
This Family Day, why not try a unique, hands-on and creative activity with your kids at The Robert Bateman Centre?
Come and join us for a Soapstone carving session! Introduce yourself to the enjoyment of thinking with your hands. Stone carving is a focusing, meditative art that both grounds and excites as stones come to life in your hands… Participants will start with a pre-cut soapstone animal shape of their choosing and are guided through a step-by-step process to complete their work of art.
Inspired by BC wildlife right here on the west coast, choose between a Bear, an Orca or a Seal. All materials are provided and the entire process is done using water so there is no stone dust. Carvings are finished and returned to participants at the end of the 90-minute workshop. The workshop will be facilitated by StudioStone Creative, Kent Laforme, who has been carving marble for the last twenty years.
For ages 7 to adult, parents can either join in and create a carving themselves, or accompany their child free of charge. Additional kits are also available for purchase in our gift shop.
