JOSEPH ABERNETHY’s COLLEGE GROVE was released by Spinning Gold Records in 2007. ABERNETHY’s songs echo and drift wistfully, sometimes into sunlight, sometimes into sadness, always with disconcerting lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies. The songwriter reaches for the natural arrangement - a musical disegno. ABERNETHY speaks of ‘the counterpart ghost’ as vital to this process, as well as other romantic pairings - the flower vase nearby the typing machine, for instance. JOSEPH lives in Vancouver.
