About

Mae Moore & Lester Quitzau

Label: Festival
Mae Moore and Lester Quitzau are both top ranked performers in their own right. Their recent collaboration will bring audiences an intimate and highly musical experience in the folk and roots genres. Blending their distinctive voices beautifully, and accompanying each other on acoustic, electric guitar and dobro, they bring their well crafted, and well loved songs to a whole new level of musicality.

Lester Quitzau is a Juno Award winner for his work with the roots / world music trio, Tri-Continental, and has received wide acclaim for his Very Electric Trio, and solo works, while Mae Moore has achieved Top 10 radio success in Canada and the US for her "neo-folkster" songs that have appeared in film and television.

Both have toured Europe and recently traveled to Germany and the Czech Republic in the Spring 2003 to perform together. Their first appearances on stage as a duo, opening for roots legend, Taj Mahal, at the Winspear Centre, Edmonton, and the Jack Singer Concert Hall, Calgary, in September 2002 were received with standing ovations. They will be touring Western Canada in May-June 2003, and Canadian festivals all summer.

Understandably, there will be those quick to include Mae Moore alongside such artists as Sarah McLachlan, Joni Mitchell, and Diana Krall. Yet in many ways, the acclaimed Canadian singer/songwriter stands apart, with a musica vision that remains steadfastly her own. Mae's soulful blend of rock, folk, and jazz carries a unique imprintur, unencumbered by imitative links to others. That was true in the beginning of her career, and is true today with IT'S A FUNNY WORLD, her Paras Recordings debut album and sixth overall.

Meet Canadian roots music artist Lester Quitzau, a mellow guy who throws down a heavy groove. In a field where intangibles like feel and integrity count for so much, Quitzau has forged an exemplary career. What began with a solid blues apprenticeship in the funky working-class bars of Edmonton has grown into an eclectic and constantly evolving musical journey for the guitarist, singer, song-writer, composer and producer. Whether he's coaxing languid, hypnotic sounds from his slide guitar in an intimate solo concert, or improvising freely with musical partners like Bill Bourne and Madagascar Slim, or his latest band, The Lester Quitzau Very Electric Trio, a hard-won honesty underscores every note.
