Lucie Idlout
One of the most powerful voices to rise from the birth of the new territory of Nunavut is Inuk singer / songwriter Lucie Idlout. Her voice at times echoes the crooning of the likes of Etta James, and then with seemingly equal ease, delivers the awesome power of alternative alumni Marianne Faithful & P.J. Harvey. Lucie’s raw, commanding style is not intended for the lighthearted. She takes you on an emotional journey through life drawing on themes that are common to us all; heartbreak, one night stands, loss, tenderness and occasionally a little rage. Her fearless insights as well as her songs’ compelling social relevance have made her debut cd "E5770 – my Mothers Name" an incredibly gripping work. Lucie’s ability to create tales of conflict while still retaining a benevolent eye has made her a favourite amongst the festival circuit. She has toured extensively through Canada, Europe and the United States garnering rave revues wherever she travels.
