Event Description

Marc Atkinson - electric guitar
Chad Geekie - keys
Joey Smith - electric bass
Bill Hicks - drums

Embracing a lifetime of musical influences, Marc Atkinson (The Marc Atkinson Trio, The Bills) continues to push musical boundaries. Hence, his new band, The Marc Atkinson Electric Project. A love for electric blues and funk grooves brought the four musicians together less than a year ago: Bill Hicks (Powder Blues Band, Diana Krall, Phil Dwyer) on drums, Joey Smith on electric bass (it's been about 15 years since Joey's had a steady electric gig!), Chad Geekie on keys, and Marc Atkinson on electric guitar.

Fans may have caught a taste of Marc & company's new sound (despite the casual funkiness, it's as inventive and technically demanding as ever) at Victoria Jazz Fest International in June. In any case, music lovers will have two chances to 'get down and funky' shortly. In addition to the show at the Victoria Event Centre on Aug 22nd, the band is playing at the Summertime Blues! Festival in Nanaimo on Aug 21st in a lineup that includes sounds that range from sweet soul to blistering boogie and slinky shuffles.

Plans are in the works for The Marc Atkinson Electric Project to record their first CD of original music this fall.
