Event Description

Surge presents:

CUT CHEMIST:
...
Cut Chemist has been recording and performing for over twenty years. He started dj’ing in 1984, at age 11 years old. In 1987 aged 14 Cut started recording with his friends including Chali 2na (Jurassic 5). Cut first became known as a founding member of both the rap group Jurassic 5 and the Grammy award winning Latin funk outfit, Ozomatli. Keeping his involvement with both groups in tandem with one another, Cut has developed a taste for music and rhythms from around the world while keeping his ethic for the hip hop tradition. His mix-tapes and remixes became critically acclaimed. His ‘Chemist’ moniker was fully realized with his instrumental, Lesson 6: The Lecture. A musical journey that challenged hip hop production with music theory ideals. Cut also found time to collaborate with DJ Shadow on what would be one of the worlds most sought after mix cd’s, Brainfreeze, soon to be followed by its sequel, Product Placement.

THE FUNK HUNTERS
(Dunks & The Outlier) have exploded onto the worldwide Ghetto Funk scene with their signature blend of booty-shaking bass heavy party funk. Their unique 4-turntable DJ sets have wreaked havoc on dancefloors across the country, from Vancouver all the way to Montreal, and to crowds of thousands at some of North America’s most popular music festivals, including the Soundwave Music Festival, The BassCoast Project, and performing on two stages at the acclaimed Shambhala Music Festival. 2010 saw them complete their first month-long international tour, playing shows across the country of Brazil.

On the production front, their original music, remixes, and edits have been played around the world in clubs and on radio-stations alike. Signed to GhettoFunk, Manmade Records, Big M, and Swing Set Sounds, and working alongside labels like Ghetto Funk, Goodgroove Records, and Homebreakin Records to position Canada on the map as a leader in the funky breaks and bass scene, these two are showing no signs of slowing down.

NEON STEVE:

Whether it be his fresh face, fresh beats or fresh attire, it's hard not to notice Neon Steve. Hailing from Victoria BC on Vancouver Island, Steve is quickly making his mark as one of the West Coast's top DJ's/Producers.
At the ripe age of 22, Steve's list of accomplishments has already grown to be quite impressive. Whether it be his infectious live act (that recently seen him take 1st place in the 2010 Hush DJ Challenge), or his ability of being able to craft ass-shaking tunes in the studio, it's no surprise he's had the opportunity to share the stage with some of the worlds top acts (artists such as A.Skillz, Rusko, Krafty Kuts, Boy 8 Bit, Nick Thayer, Parker, Pimpsoul, The Freestylers, MSTRKRFT, Freq Nasty, Fort Knox Five, Deekline, Farace, Mat the Alien, Busta, Stickybuds, J-Roc, and Ed 209 to name a few)
