Victoria Gilbert and Sullivan Society
Presents Ruddigore in Spring 2013

Produced in 1887, Ruddigore, one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s lesser-known operettas, contains much of their best work.

The operetta, a parody of the domestic melodrama so popular in its day, is about a witch’s curse, hidden identity and a gallery of ancestors who come to life to exact their will on the unhappy mortal in their power. There is an evil baronet, a high born hero in disguise, a virtuous heroine, a faithful servant, a true-blue plain spoken sailor friend and a woman driven mad by love and jealousy as well as many other characters of melodrama. Gilbert turns these characters topsy-turvy creating an exciting story with unexpected and very funny twists.

Mesmerizing our audience and performers, George Corwin returns as Music Director, Chris Moss as Stage Director, and Heather-Elayne Day as Choreographer. Returning performers include Adrian Sly (Pooh Bah in The Mikado), George Morfitt (Best actor award: 2012 Theatre BC South Island Zone Festival), Andrea Palin (Cousin Hebe in HMS Pinafore Concert). New to our mainstage productions - Meaghan Toole (Columbia in Rocky Horror Show, Saltspring Island)
