Meridiem Wind Orchestra is a group of professional musicians, music teachers, and superb community musicians who volunteer their time to bring great wind band music to the Capital Regional District, creating a model for the next generation of musicians and concertgoers.
Wind band has a long-standing tradition going back over 100 years, and Meridiem will be taking their audience through some of that history, with classic works like Holst’s ‘First Suite in Eb’, written in 1909, through to Robert Buckley’s much more current composition, ‘LOL’. If you’ve ever played in a wind band, this program will have something you’ll recognize. Likely the most recognizable piece, ‘Amazing Grace’ will be paired with the lesser-known Scottish tune, ‘Tir Na Nog’. What all the pieces have in common is their ability to demonstrate the beautiful depth and variety of sound that a wind ensemble can create.
