International Recording Artists
Ari Neufeld & Rik Leaf

Thursday Night, June 23st 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For one night, Ari Neufeld and Rik Leaf are going to share the stage at The Royal, one of Vancouver’s premiere live music venues located at 1029 Granville Street. For both performers, this promises to be one of the most entertaining and artistic concerts of the summer.

Ari Neufeld has toured Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Japan, Central America, the Amazon, West Indies and across Europe, offering intensely personal performances with a depth of substance and style beyond his years. “Vancouver’s Ari Neufeld is onto a very good thing with his styled traveler’s folk (see Xavier Rudd, John Butler). Evocative, creative arranging and sensitive singing. Best of all, he takes chances with his writing.” ( Stuart Derdeyn, The Province)

Ari has been featured on four independent releases, and garnered the recognition and praise of recording artists, like Tegan & Sara and Damien Rice, “Old Man Songs is a beautiful solo project, I listen to often”

Winnipeg’s Rik Leaf has gained national renown as a captivating performer and articulate songwriter since 1998. His combination of electro-acoustic-funk-folk-rock, spontaneous socio-political-psycho-spiritual performance rants, and touring with a collection of original artwork and print reproductions from some of Canada’s emerging visual artists, has been described as ‘the consummate art experience, absolutely worth checking out’ (Bill Bulham, Uptown Magazine)

Constantly touring North America and internationally to the U.K., Scandinavia and a United Nations benefit concert in Kosovo with Bruce Cockburn, as well as being featured on six internationally released compilation CDs and two independent full-length CDs have attracted the attention and praise of Canada’s cultural industry, ‘Rik in performance is like a young Cockburn on caffeine.’ (Judy Slivniski, Producer, EDGE Cultural Management)

Joining Rik is Marie-Josée Dandeneau, an acclaimed Metis multi-instrumentalist from St. Boniface, MB, adding standup and fretless bass, piano, acoustic and djembe. Marie-Josée was awarded “Best Francophone Recording” at the 2001 Prairie Music Awards as well as “Best Technical Recording” from Mid Ocean School of Media Arts in 2002.

If you love music that is passionately written and performed, enjoy captivating live performers, wildly entertaining storytelling, spontaneous performance rants, and are interested in supporting Canada’s brightest emerging artists…don’t miss this concert!

Thursday night, June 23 at The Royal, 1029 Granville Street
Doors open at 8:00 p.m., concert starts at 9:00 p.m.
Tickets are $8.00

This concert is part of a series of cultural events designed to wet the appetite of a population over exposed to under whelming, formulaic, mass produced pop culture, creating anticipation for a truly inspiring experience.
