Event Description

June 8 and 9 will bring performances by the Calidore String Quartet, renowned for their “deep reserves of virtuosity and irrepressible dramatic instinct” (New York Times). Their unique “balance of intellect and expression” (Los Angeles Times) is complemented by the feeling that “four more individual musicians are unimaginable, yet these speak, breathe, think and feel as one” (Washington Post). After over a decade of performances and residencies, numerous critically acclaimed recordings, and significant awards, the Calidore String Quartet is recognized as one of the world’s foremost interpreters of a vast repertory. They have appeared in venues throughout North America, Europe, and Asia including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, London’s Wigmore Hall, Berlin’s Konzerthaus, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and at major festivals such as the BBC Proms, Verbier, and Ravinia. Their recording of Beethoven’s late String Quartets earned the quartet BBC Music Magazine’s Chamber Award in 2024. The magazine’s five-star review noted that the Calidore’s performances “penetrate right to the heart of the music”. Their EKSM program includes two of these late Beethoven String Quartets: Op. 131 and Op. 135, as well as a short work, Strum, by Jesse Montgomery.
