Event Description

Flora Scott began playing the guitar and singing at about the age of six. She has studied jazz guitar for the past several years receiving instruction at jazz workshops from Oliver Gannon, Seattle guitarist Brian Nova. She performed in a jazz big band with Slide Hampton and Ian McDougal during Hugh Fraser's Big Band Workshop and plays regularly in the Don Leppard Big Band. Flora also performs regularly around Victoria. Her current CD, “Collage” released last August spans an array of jazz styles from swing and Latin rhythm to ballads and up-beat tempos.

Joey Smith has been playing string bass and guitar professionally for over 20 years. He toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra for two and a half years then studied at the Eastman School of Music, receiving a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media in 1990. He now lives in Victoria and works as an arranger and freelance musician playing bass and guitar with local traditional and contemporary jazz groups.

Don Leppard has been a professional drummer since the age of ten. He soon was employed full time, playing in and touring with a variety of show bands and stage bands. A major part of his musical career was spent with the Canadian Armed Forces, touring extensively with the R.C.A.F. Concert Band, and later, as leader of a jazz ensemble for the Canadian Armed Forces Band. He has appeared often on national radio and television, has been a jazz festival adjudicator and has given many clinics in jazz drumming . Don is Victoria's “first-call, always in demand” drummer.
