This year's Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival Workshop Series brings our festival massive a chance to get intimate with one of hip-hop's most iconic groups and festival headliners, the legendary Souls of Mischief. Members of the mighty Hieroglyphics Crew, Souls of Mischief are cemented as one of the most important groups in the history of rap. While the west coast music scene was teeming with the braggadocious swagger of gangsta rap, Souls of Mischief forged their place in the culture by eschewing a lot of the tropes that defined their genre at the time. It's here, in the positivity and contemplative nature of their writing that Souls of Mischief's music most directly connects with reggae. Join us at the Open Studios as we dig deeper into that connection between the genres, the group's history and the role of conscious, positive music.
